Isabella Thoburn College Marks Earth Day with Cleanliness Drive at Ekana Wetlands

Lucknow: On the occasion of Earth Day, Isabella Thoburn College organized a meaningful cleanliness and awareness drive at the Ekana Wetlands, reinforcing its commitment to environmental conservation. The initiative was conducted under the flagship programme of the Gomti Task Force, aimed at rejuvenating the Gomti River.

The programme was spearheaded by the Gomti Task Force in collaboration with the 137 CETF Battalion (TA) of the 39 Gorkha Rifles, whose disciplined and dedicated efforts toward environmental protection left a lasting impression on participants.

The event commenced with an informative session highlighting the ecological importance of the Ekana Wetlands. Students were introduced to the region’s rich biodiversity, including various species of fish, turtles, snakes, and birds. The session also emphasized the significance of herbal and medicinal plants in maintaining ecological balance and supporting human health.

Following the awareness programme, a cleanliness drive was carried out along the banks of the Gomti River. NCC and NSS volunteers from Isabella Thoburn College actively participated, working alongside the task force and army personnel. The collaborative effort reflected a strong spirit of responsibility and environmental stewardship.

To ensure participants’ well-being, the Gomti Task Force provided nutritious refreshments and lime water, a gesture widely appreciated by students.

The programme proved to be both educational and inspiring, especially for the young women participants who witnessed firsthand the commitment and discipline of the task force. The initiative concluded with an oath by all attendees to protect the Earth and keep rivers clean.

The college expressed gratitude to its President, Dr. E. S. Charles, and Principal, Dr. Maj. Neerja Masih, for their continued support and encouragement.

Overall, the Earth Day celebration successfully instilled a sense of awareness and responsibility among students, underscoring the importance of sustainable practices and conservation for future generations.
